As one of the most memorable celebrity stylists for Black women in Hollywood, Zerina Akers has an incredible roster of clients. Akers recently won an Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program for Beyoncé's Black Is King. From styling Naomi Campbell to Megan Thee Stallion, her talent stretches far and wide, including her entrepreneurship. Last year, she founded Black Owned Everything, which pledges to continue the support for Black-owned businesses beyond a trend.
According to her website, “Fashion is not only about luxury; it’s about inspiring her clients to express their authentic selves.” She’s won Stylist of the Year by Harlem’s Fashion Row and styled the Mother’s Day campaign for Zales, so it’s pretty clear that she can do it all. Here’s seven of our favorite fashion moments that Akers has created.
Have Mercy! Akers’ choice of style for Chlöe Bailey’s music video featured a hot pink, plaid hourglass blazer from Area. To complement the crystal-embellished blazer, we’re loving the diamond choker and square sunglasses that Akers and Bailey added to the fit.
Megan Thee Stallion
For Megan Thee Stallion’s recent cover for Essence, Akers was the mastermind behind the Tina Snow-inspired look. Between Megan’s platinum blonde locks and icy attire, this could be one of the best magazine covers of the year.
Although Akers is well-known for being Beyoncé's stylist, her portfolio for the multifaceted artist includes the glamorous photos for Queen Bey’s promotion for Black Is King.
Niecy Nash graced the cover of Essence in 2017, so it’s no surprise that Akers was behind the luxurious dresses that Nash dawned throughout the issue of the magazine.
Chlöe x Halle
Earlier this year, dynamic duo Chlöe and Halle Bailey collaborated with Fendi for their #MeAndMyPeekaboo campaign, which included the Italian brand’s Peekaboo bags. While Fendi explored the creativity in the promotion, the sisters looked incredible in the video series as “Busy Boy” from their album, Ungodly Hour, played in the background.
Saweetie’s seven luscious looks in W Magazine’s 2021 cover were another result of Akers’ talent. The variety of styles shown throughout the feature include a black halter dress with matching latex gloves.
Teen Vogue’s October edition starring Normani wouldn’t have been complete without the effortless beauty and style that the “Motivation” singer emitted on the cover. The floral blazer that she donned in the shoot was the icing on the cake.
