Aja Naomi King is officially a part of the mom club!
The How To Get Away With Murder actress revealed that she welcomed her newborn baby this past Sunday with an unedited post-childbirth photoshoot in her backyard.
"No, this is not a pregnancy Before picture. This is the After," she confirmed in an Instagram post. "After days of labor. After experiencing what felt like my insides being ripped apart, no lie. After experiencing the unimaginable beauty of childbirth, this is what is left behind. This Gorgeous Body!
"So in celebration of myself and my body for "Doing the Damn Thing," I wanted to share this photo. No make-up, no editing, no filters (and you know I love a filter!)...Just Me...a woman in awe of her Body and her Baby! ♥️."
King kept her baby news under wraps for most of her pregnancy until she revealed she was with child back in March after suffering two miscarriages. She again revealed the announcement on social media to share more about her rainbow baby.
"I really can't begin to express the fullness of our immense joy to be welcoming a baby into our family," she wrote on Instagram. "With that, I also want to express that this beautiful journey has not been devoid of heartbreak. This is my beautiful little rainbow baby."
The L'Oréal Paris spokesmodel also shared that she found "solace" in the fact that other women opened up to her about their own miscarriages, and it helped her get through her own difficult journey to motherhood.
"I've been so deeply moved by the women who have openly shared their miscarriages. It brought me solace in a time that was incredibly painful to know I wasn't alone. To understand that this experience is common, horrible but still common," she continued.
"At first, I wasn't sure about sharing my experience because I felt like so many other people had way worse experiences than I did, but I realized that I can't treat pain like an Olympic sport, as if it's a competition and only those who have the worst stories win the right to talk about it. No matter the size of it in your mind, pain is pain, and loss is loss, whatever the degree. And once you are touched by it, it stays with you forever."
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, she raved about her little bundle of joy and expressed how she looks forward to "unlocking all the secrets of parenthood." The new mom even shared that she was grateful to have the opportunity to still work on her latest film, Boxing Day, in the early stages of her pregnancy.
"I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to do this project because my morning sickness had only just started winding down, as well as the fact that I wasn't sharing my pregnancy with anyone yet and being pregnant on set during a pandemic seemed terrifying," she told the outlet. "But it all worked out in this really beautiful way, and I'm so happy I was able to share in this experience."
Congratulations are certainly in order for King and her family – welcome to motherhood!
