Who didn’t think Blue Ivy Carter was going to be a superstar in her own way? Exactly. The oldest of the Carter kids has made history…again. On Sunday night, at the VMAs, Blue Ivy became the youngest person to ever take home a moon person for the "Brown Skin Girl" video alongside her famous mom, Wiz Kid and SAINt JHN. The quartet knocked out some pretty big names including Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. The song was featured on Beyoncé’s Lion King: The Gift album and the video made its way to Youtube (after previously being released only to Disney+ users as part of the short film component) late last summer. The visuals are an ode to the women with the richest melanin and features cameos from Naomi Campbell, Kelly Rowlands and others. It is a touching and beautiful representation of brown girl glory.
This isn’t the first time Blue Ivy has broken records. Earlier this year, she took home a Grammy, making her the youngest artist to accomplish that feat, and also entered the Billboard charts because of the tune—all before the age of 10. We know this is just the beginning for little Blue but we are already stanning. Bey was notably missing from Sunday night’s awards despite being nominated alongside Blue; however, she popped up on Instagram in Cannes, France on a yacht with her husband, Jay-Z, in what we can only assume is an extended birthday celebration for our fav who just turned 40!
