The National Collegiate Athletic Association has some insanely talented ladies. Although many times, college women basketball players are overlooked, it is important to give them their flowers. In the midst of the Reese-Clark brouhaha, another conversation has surfaced: the undeniable swag of the Black women playing NCAA basketball.

Historically, Black players have had a significant role in the history and success of the NCAA. These young women are extending that legacy with their enviable style. Their self-expression through style on and off the court is a breath of fresh air. Here is a rundown of looks from some of NCAA basketball’s women of the hour.

Angel Reese (LSU)

Angel Reese recently made headlines after the internet erupted in a frenzy following the “You Can’t See Me” saga. While the controversial issue gained much attention, her personal style has also become a topic of discussion. Reese, dubbed the “Bayou Barbie” by her fans, has crafted her signature look with immaculate nails, a flawlessly laid wavy weave and perfect-length lashes. Her confidence is only the icing on the cake.

In a TikTok, Reese shows off a body wave weave. In the caption she shares that the hair is produces by Cruz Textures. The brand sells 100 percent premium raw Indian hair.

Aliyah Boston (USC Carolina)

Aliyah Boston is one of the frontrunners of the University of South Carolina’s women’s basketball team. A scroll through her TikTok feed will reveal her most prominent aesthetic: colorful braids.

On multiple occasions, the USC Carolina player has rocked her braids in vibrant colors that are absolutely stunning. From mixing red and green hair to rocking blue, orange and purple braids, Boston has shown that styling Black hair is a limitless experience.

Alexis Morris (LSU)

Apart from being a phenomenal basketball player, Alexis Morris is also unapologetic about her signature style. The Beaumont, Texas, native is known for wearing her hair in black twists and braids.

Jasmine Carson (LSU) — (WRITE OUT FULL SCHOOL NAME FOR H2’s)

There is something inherently stunning about Black women and the way they rock their hair. Jasmine Carson, a guard for LSU’s women’s team, rocks her tresses in a deep blonde color that is both striking and intriguing.

Blonde hair on Black women is a beautiful and striking combination. It challenges traditional beauty norms and creates a bold statement. Carson is a true embodiment of all of that.

Flau’Jae Johnson (LSU)

Flau’Jae Johnson is a woman of many talents. Apart from basketball, the 19 year old is also a rising hip hop star. Johnson is so talented that Lil Wayne has said that he wants to collaborate with her.

Her signature curly tresses, wispy lashes and confidence are exactly what Black Girl Magic dreams are made of.

Haley Jones (Stanford University)

The end of the 2022 – 2023 women’s basketball season was also the end of Haley Jones’ college basketball career. During her time at Stanford University, the star was a wonderful representation of Black beauty and style both on and off the court. She continues to shine as she preps for the next phase of her life.

The haircare brand Uncle Funky’s Daughter took notice of Jones’ bright light and named her one of its college athlete brand ambassadors. The brand is aiming to celebrate textured hair through the program, and Jones was the perfect fit. She proudly rocks her natural hairstyles.
