There are many brands out there that provide a wide range of supple skincare. From cleansers to ultra-hydrating serums, the skincare market is booming, but can sometimes be a bit overwhelming to navigate.
One of the hardest parts of the skincare and beauty industry is finding products that work well for you, especially when it comes to the trial and error phase of running into constant disappointment.
For starters, finding the right products on my end has never been easy. As a Black woman with plenty of skincare imperfections such as hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and acne, I too like most suffer when it comes to finding the right skincare products, and yes, that includes makeup. After combatting a never-ending feat of finding the right foundations, I sometimes would seriously just throw my hands up into the air. My skin felt cakey, oily, and creased after applying foundations- all common concerns that left me feeling defeated and as if no makeup brand truly understood the concept of melanin skin.
After embarking on a long battle of defeat within the foundation realm, I’ve finally come across a brand with holy grail skincare- including a holy grail foundation that I never knew existed.
Founded and created by Nicola Kilner, The Ordinary is a must-shop destination for skincare, body care, and haircare. And as of recently, I just found out that this vegan-friendly brand actually carries makeup products. Yes! We’re shocked too.
I took a trip to The Ordinary in Soho to test it out for myself.
After finding out about this amazing brand revelation, I took a trip to their brick-and-mortar shop in Soho, NY, and was met with a full line of foundations, concealers, and primers. The store is of course modern and chic with a dose of simplistic edge.
If you’re looking for a light foundation that won’t cake or crease, this one is just for you. The benefit? It feels just like you’re applying skincare, but better.
This full coverage formula provides a smooth finish without leaving crazy “heaviness” that’s often left after applying foundations. It’s water-free, alchohol-free, oil-free, and best of all free of silicones.
This high- spreadability pigment provides high coverage for imperfections and blemishes.
Overall, The Ordinary provides skin-conscious products that work in all of the right places. Whether you’re looking for a serum to dull those pesky dark marks or needing a bit of coverage for everyday to evening wear, this brand has you covered, the right way.
