We are two sisters, both born and raised in The Netherlands, and blessed with roots in the heart of Africa. We both have an individual story on how we found our glow!

Mwanini experienced chronic pain for 5 years, and recently she got diagnosed with Lyme Disease —

"The first few years were very difficult, because I didn’t know where the pain was coming from," Mwanini said. "I visited many doctors and hospitals and nobody seemed to know the answer. They couldn’t even be bothered for looking anymore and just told me that I should take the prescribed medication and learn to live with it.

I decided that, that wasn’t an option for me and I took matters into my own hands. I knew I had to make a drastic change and needed to take better care of myself if I wanted to control this pain by myself.

I had to learn how to listen to my body, to truly love myself, to give my body the love and attention she deserves. Eight months ago, I finally discovered all that pain was caused by Lyme disease, but I already made the change before that, because I didn’t give up on my body. I believed the signals she was giving me and learned to live with it my own healthy way."

At the age of 26, Ngudju started to experience health issues which lead to a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) —

"It started with a cramp in my hands and neck, and later, ended with losing my sight for 60% in one eye and numbness in my feet," revealed Ngudju. "Not soon after I got diagnosed with MS, doctors prescribed heavy medication, but I felt I was too young to be on medication for the rest of my life. They told me that it was the only way for me to get my life back — but to me, it felt as if I was going to lose it even more. I didn't want the disease to take over my life.

I started to research other options for healing myself, which lead me to yoga and a plant-based diet. There are so many ways to heal the body, for me, it all started with changing my mindset. To listen to my own needs and letting go of the expectations others might have of you."

So one found her glow and health through yoga and nutrition and the other by self-love and meditation. We decided to combine our powers, so that we could inspire more people to find inner-love, eat healthier and practice more yoga!

We wanted to create content about Self-Love, Plant-based Food, Yoga and Self Care.
Because we believe: to have a beautiful and carefree life, you have to love yourself first! With Own Your Glow, we share our story and experiences of finding our inner-glow, so we can help others find their own glow and start shining from the inside out.

More and more people in the Black community are going back to their roots and looking into ways to heal themselves with healthy diets and exercise. We’ve experienced first hand how practicing this mindful life daily can drastically change your life.

Our community has grown to more than 25k followers in just 6 months! On our Instagram and YouTube, we motivate those who are looking for inner peace and love. To help them along the way we made a free cookbook, yoga beginners guide and a digital journal to get them started on their journey.
