On Sunday evening, the singer posted solely and image of her hand holding a football with the caption “.” Who knew such a simple post could break the internet in unfathomable ways?

However, it was reported earlier in the day by TMZ that she had been in discussions with the NFL and Roc Nation about performing at State Farm Stadium.

This is a big shift from the “Umbrella” singer’s decision to not perform at the Super Bowl in the [ast to support former San Fransisco 49er’s quarterback Colin Kaepernick. When talking about the opportunity with Vogue in 2019 she said “For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”

Jay-Z has had similar remarks about playing at the Super Bowl. In the song “Ape Sh*t,” he raps

I said no to the Super Bowl/ You need me I don’t need you.

Jay-Z has since partnered with the NFL through his company, Roc Nation that will help “advise on selecting artists for major NFL performances like the Super Bowl.” The partnership also allows Roc Nation to play a major part in the NFL’s “Inspire Change” initiative. This partnership has paved the way for more Black artists to feel more comfortable to perform at the Super Bowl, even after the NFL’s controversial past. Last February we saw the Super Bowl’s first hip-hop headlined halftime show with performances by Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak.

And now… we are about to be blessed by our Bajan queen, Rihanna. “Rihanna Navy,” the singer’s fan base have been sharing their thoughts on everything from their excitement to what exactly the singer will be performing. Take a look at some of our favorites below.
