For its 2022 Festival of Culture issue, ESSENCE magazine recently unveiled two new cover stars: Summer Walker and Lucky Daye. The feature on the magazine’s digital issue delved into several topics, including the distinctive sounds of both artists and the relentless persistence that marked their claim to fame.

Summer Walker: Sultry RnB Pioneer

Walker, whose voice has become the sultry epitome of modern-day soulful RnB, revealed that although the industry tends not to see the commercial value in Soul music, it is her preferred type of music. The singer welcomed a baby girl last year and opened up about the joys of motherhood, noting that despite the numerous challenges of trying to balance a thriving career, motherhood fills her with immense joy.

Critical Acclaim

In the same year, she welcomed her child, Walker’s second album received critical acclaim when it made a grand entrance onto the Billboard 200 chart by debuting at number 1. Although the 26-year-old RnB beauty is an introvert and has shared her experience with social anxiety, she has continued to make consistent great strides in the industry and is slated to headline the ESSENCE Fest on July 2.
