There’s something about a woman with red lipstick on. One swipe of red lipstick can make almost anyone feel alluring and confident.

That's why I believe a classic red lip is a must for the holiday season. While I don’t usually wear it regularly, it’s definitely something I like to break out for those special events. Seeing as Christmastime is indeed a special occasion, it’s no wonder that I rock a red lip more often than not. However, finding the right shade takes a little bit of trial and error, as I am sure we all know. The perfect Christmas red is neither too blue nor too orange.

My holiday makeup usually consists of glittery golden eyes, a subtle black wing, dewy skin, and of course, a pouty red lip. I decided to ruffle through my makeup collection and pull out every red lip color I own to find a perfect shade for the season and to my surprise, I found a few.

Feel free to try out any of these red lips the next time you're getting dolled up for a holiday date night or office parties this Christmas.

1. Smashbox: Be Legendary Lipstick – $21

Some red shades are gorgeous, but run a little too orange to be considered a true Christmas red. But for the winter I try to wear reds that are more “true” with a bit of a blue undertone.

This Smashbox lipstick is not only hydrating, but it protects lips with shea butter and vitamins C and E.

2. Buxom: Full-On Plumping Lip Polish Gloss – $21

Now, this isn’t exactly in the lipstick category, but it is a gorgeous candy apple red. Not only does it create the appearance of fuller lips, but it also provides a high-shine, shimmering finish.

3. Nars: Audacious Lipstick In Rita – $34

After knocking those shades off my list, I also found Rita, a striking scarlet red that is a bit of a cult favorite in the beauty world. Another excellent choice is MAC’s Russian Red, which is a gorgeous bright red with slight bluish undertones.

4. Yves Saint Laurent: Volupté Tint-in-balm – $34

If you are looking for more sheer color or just a hint of tint, then this one, in the color "Touch Me Red," is for you. Packed with its signature pomegranate scent, the lip-shaped heart center contains conditioning ingredients like apricot butter and jojoba oil to help nourish lips during this harsh winter season.
