In the past, natural deodorants were associated with the neo-hippie, granola-crunchy movement that (inexplicably) involved a lot of Ani DiFranco songs and unshaved pits and parts. Today, natural deodorants are all about being sustainable while also working holistically with your body's natural flora...all while remaining aluminum-free. And contrary to popular belief, today's natural deodorants work just as well — if not better — than their artificial alternatives.

We checked out these eight all-natural deodorants, and we can confirm that they work like a dream. Try adding them to your beauty routine!

1. Native Natural Deodorant

This all-natural deodorant is vegan and unisex, and comes in great-smelling scents like vanilla coconut & cucumber and mint. Best of all, the brand never tests on animals, and donates a portion of its proceeds to 1% For The Planet.

2. Freedom

Ira Green said that she created this all-natural formula deodorant after three of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. Vegan options are available. And some of the scents — like the jasmine orange blossom — are to die for.

3. Schmidt's Lavender & Sage

If you're looking for a quick-absorbing and affordable all-natural deodorant, Schmidt's Lavender and Sage is the perfect deodorant. It's also free of aluminum, artificial dyes, and parabens.

4. Megababe Rosy Pits Deodorant

The active ingredient in Megababe Rosy Pits deodorant is cornstarch, which is infinitely superior to baking soda in its antiperspirant properties. It also contains sage and green tea and is cruelty-free.

5. Erbaviva

This spray deodorant is a perfect blend of European sensibilities and California culture and comes in yummy scents like jasmine & grapefruit. It's alcohol-free, too, so it won't burn as it goes on. Erbaviva also has a full line of products, including stretch mark oil and body wash.

6. Ethique

Like Erbaviva, Ethique has a full line of eco-friendly products, including shampoo and conditioner. But its all-natural deodorant comes in a solid form, and it comes in eco-friendly packaging as well.

7. Tom's of Maine

Tom's of Maine is an old-reliable, a standard-bearer, and one of the first companies to come out with an all-natural deodorant (as well as a full line of all-natural products). If nothing else, you can count on Tom's of Maine to always be there.

8. Pretty Frank

While not as well-known in the American market, Pretty Frank products are vegan, cruelty-free, and the most affordable brand on this list. It also contains shea butter, which is perfect to moisturize your skin.
