Multi-award-winning actress Viola Davis stuns many with her series of cover shoots for ELLE Brazil’s September edition. In the series of photos for the ELLE Brazil cover, the actress shines in outlandish headpieces, and a black color scheme, all put together by a contemporary spin on vintage glam.

In Davis’s most recent film she stars as Nanisca, the general of an all-female army of the Dahomey Amazons in the film “The Woman King”.  “The Woman King” is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, who is well known for her work on “Love & Basketball” and the film follows the all-female warriors of the African Kingdom of Dohamey (present-day Benin).

“We want to take the reins, and this film is a reflection of that,” Davis says in the ELLE interview in regards to the film’s meaning. “Of a desire of mine to see more black women on screen, because I don’t see us.”

The cover shots are by Marcos Florentino + Kelvin Yule ( aka MAR+VIN) and they received widespread acclaim from many on Twitter.

This is not the first time Davis has appeared on the cover of ELLE as she’s been on the cover two other times for ELLE US.
