Cynthia Erivo has been known for her powerhouse voice and captivating acting abilities since playing Celie in The Color Purple on Broadway and Harriet Tubman in the former's self-titled biopic.
The Emmy, Grammy and Tony winner has seen yet another surge in popularity following her role as Elphaba in the film adaptation in the hit Broadway musical, Wicked.
While the vocalist is not married, here is what is known about Erivo’s complicated love life and who many believe her current partner to be.
Erivo was first publicly known to be dating British actor, Dean John-Wilson. The two were very supportive of each other’s careers.
In 2017, it appeared that Erivo and John-Wilson had broken up. She later began dating Mario Martinez whom she reportedly met while she was dating her ex.
Erivo and Martinez’ relationship status became unclear in 2018, the year she met fellow British actress and her current suspected partner, Lena Waithe.
Interestingly, Erivo and Martinez shared romantic sentiments in 2019 on Instagram, suggesting the two were still together.
These posts of Erivo and Martinez were later deleted. At the time, Waithe was also in the process of divorcing her wife, film executive Alana Mayo. It's alleged Waithe was unfaithful in this partnership.
Reports of Erivo and Waithe suggest that they live together and made their relationship known to their close friends.
The two have never confirmed allegations or rumors about their potential life together.
Erivo has however, been open about her queerness, telling Kelly Clarkson in an interview that she did not know how to navigate it throughout her life but now has support and the language to understand and embrace it.
