All About September’s Harvest Moon Lunar Eclipse

By Hayley hynes

The partial lunar eclipse on Sept. 17 will be visible in all of South America and Europe. Most of North America will be able to see, along with parts of Asia, Russia and Antarctica.

The Moon will turn a red-brown color as the Earth’s shadow descends upon the lunar surface.

This month’s eclipse is only partial, giving the illusion of a “bite” missing; the size is determined by the alignment of the Sun, Earth and Moon.

The September full moon is the second of four consecutive supermoons in 2024. The final two will fall in October and November.

As per Space.com, “a supermoon happens when a full moon coincides with the moon’s closest point to Earth in its orbit.”

This makes the planet appear slightly brighter and larger than usual, although it can be hard to detect wit the naked eye.

They can be an emotional time, but full moons serve as a monthly opportunity to reflect and release on what’s holding you back.

The Harvest Moon is happening under the 12th sign of the zodiac, Pisces, so it’s totally normal if you’re extra in your feelings right now.

Be gentle with yourself at this time. Lean into self-care, vulnerable journal sessions, expression and connection.

If you didn't catch the beauty of the Harvest Moon, don't worry! On Oct. 2 an annular eclipse will be visible over the Pacific Ocean, southern Chile and southern Argentina.
