Stress-Free Tips for Decluttering Your Kids' Toys This Spring

By ashley nash baltazar

A great way to teach your little ones responsibility is through empowering them to keep their bedroom and playspace clean.

If you want to motivate your kids to join in on your spring cleaning plans this year, here are simple tips to get you started!

Once you've rounded up all their toys, group them together into like categories. If there's an abundance of one kind, ask your child if there are any they feel ready to part with.

Categorizing Toys

Your kids may be holding onto toys that are sentimental and also taking up space. If you're able, help them part with the toy by explaining that it's broken and needs to be tossed.

Toss Broken Toys

Perhaps several family members got the memo of a new hot toy being on your child's wish list. If they have duplicates, then those can be given to children in need.

Donate Duplicates

Placing the toys on display acts as a reminder. That way both you and your children are aware of what is there and what needs to be included in the organization.

Display Favorites

A container that holds the toys will help to keep surfaces clear of any clutter. Whether in the corner of the room or the bottom of the closet, having one place to store things helps create a sense of order.

Create a Toy Box

If you're supervising play time, try asking your kids to try the "one in, one out" method. This way only one toy at a time is out for play rather than several.

One In, One Out

Sometimes your kids don't want to decide on which toy they'd like to play with. And perhaps there's no need to choose with a smaller bunch of toys.

No Pressure

Have your kids join in on the fun of organization with you. Sing the "clean up" song to alert them that it's time to declutter their toys.
