A majority of women wear bras that are not the right size for them. This isn’t surprising when you consider that most people with breasts do not know how to measure bra size.
Measuring your bra size involves two key steps: determining your band and cup size. All you need to find these yourself is a soft measuring tape.
Wrap a measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, right under your bust (where the bra band would be). Make sure it's level and parallel to the ground.
Round the measurement to the nearest whole number. If the number is even, add 4 inches. For odd, add 5 inches. That sum is your band size.
Example: If you measure 31 inches, your band size is 36 (31 + 5).
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your breasts (just above the nipple), keeping it level.
Round the measurement to the nearest whole number.
Subtract your band size from your bust measurement and use the difference to determine your cup size.
1 inch = A cup 2 inches = B cup 3 inches = C cup 4 inches = D cup 5 inches = DD (E) cup, and so on.
Example Calculation
Band measurement: 31 inches → Band size = 36 Bust measurement: 38 inches Difference: 38 - 36 = 2 inches → B cup Final Bra Size: 36B
Measure without a padded bra for accuracy. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Check for spillage or gaps when trying on bras.
Remember that even after calculating your size, different brands may vary. Best practice is to always try on bras before purchasing.
