Limiting consumption of high risk foods, drinks and substances such as medicines, caffeine and alcohol are some of the main changes pregnant people make.

You can reach for certain teas as a substitute for coffee or to soothe symptoms, but you'll want to be mindful of which flavors you're consuming and how much.

Always consult your doctor with any concerns first. However, green tea is generally safe for pregnant people to consume in quantities of 2-3 cups a day at most.

Green tea typically contains 25-45 mg of caffeine per 8 oz cup. It's recommended that pregnant people consume less than 200 mg of caffeine per day.

Other teas that are typically safe during pregnancy include black tea, white, peppermint tea and ginger tea.

Which Teas Are Safe?

Again, always consult your doctor first and limit the amount of cups you consume. Opt for diet or diluted options when possible.

Though herbal teas usually do not contain caffeine and are considered beneficial for pregnancy by many, there is not enough evidence to suggest that they are always safe.

Herbal teas are known to help during pregnancy. They can be hydrating and soothing for symptoms like insomnia and nausea.

Always talk to a doctor first and be mindful of excessive consumption of any tea while pregnant. If you are cleared by a doctor, you should be safe under a daily limit.
