Soap making is a long practiced art/science that has evolved to include many creative and eco-friendly methods. One of these trending techniques uses grass as the main ingredient.
Grass, specifically wheatgrass, can have many benefits when used in soap. It is gentle, rich in vitamins A, C and E and high in chlorophyll.
These ingredients can help soothe inflammation, promote healthy skin and combat free radicals through their antioxidant properties. Here’s how you can make your own natural soap with grass.
450 grams (1 pound) of melt-and-pour soap base (like glycerin or goat milk) 2 tbsp of wheatgrass powder (or natural wheat grass) 10-20 drops of essential oils (such as lavender or tea tree oil)
Soap molds Microwave-safe bowl Stirring utensils Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol (to eliminate bubbles)
Prepare, clean and organize your soap-making workstation so that all your supplies are conveniently at reach.
Cut and melt the soap base in a microwave-safe bowl. Do this by heating it for 30 seconds at a time and stirring until melted.
Gradually add the wheatgrass powder to the melted soap base and stir frequently to evenly distribute. If using natural wheatgrass, rinse it thoroughly, blend it with a small amount of water and put aside.
Add your essential oils to the mixture. Adjust the number of drops based on the desired fragrance strength.
Carefully pour the soap mixture into the soap molds to create a smooth surface free of any air bubbles.
Allow the soap to set/cool until it hardens at room temperature. This can take up to a few hours to overnight.
Gently remove the soap from the molds after it has completely set. The homemade wheatgrass soap should then be ready for use.
Use different types of grass or add natural exfoliants to the soap. Try finely ground oats or a pinch of sea salt for a different texture and color. Research different soap bases to find the best one for you.
