The summer months bring lots of fun but it can be hard to maintain makeup through all the heat.
Finding products that can last throughout the long, sunny days is the goal. That is why primer with SPF is so appealing.
Primer creates a smooth surface on the skin for makeup application and, therefore, helps the product last longer. It acts as a barrier between the skin and makeup.
Primer does this by filling in pores and fine lines, blurring or mattifying the skin, helping to even out discoloration and more.
Moisturizer hydrates and nourishes the skin. It also softens and smooths the skin. Moisturizer should always be a part of a skincare routine, especially after cleansing.
It is still important to put on sunscreen if the primer you use has SPF. This is because sunscreen is more effective when it is a stand-alone product that is applied in its own separate layer.
Primer with SPF is usually applied lightly and may not cover the whole face. This does not provide the full range of coverage and protection that a full layer of broad spectrum sunscreen does.
Moisturizer always goes on before primer, so it can hydrate the skin directly. Putting on primer first can interfere with the moisturizer's effectiveness and cause the makeup to pill.
While primer with SPF cannot stand on its own as sunscreen, it is an added bonus. Here are some good primers with SPF.
This primer by Tatcha is made to leave all skin types with a blurred, matter finish and help improve pores.
This stand alone SPF 50 sunscreen by La Roche-Posay is popular as it can also be used under makeup with its matter, blurring finish.
The SPF 30 Blurring Primer from NYX may be found at drugstores but it is long-lasting and hydrating while being affordable.
