President Donald Trump has demonstrated consistent disapproval of reproductive rights. His handpicked justices overturning Roe v. Wade and disapproval of contraception align with the government website's take down.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services launched the reproductive rights website in 2022. It was part of a public awareness campaign.
The site offered information about access to abortion, birth control and reproductive health care in addition to a Know-Your-Rights patient fact sheet. It also affirmed that employers are required to cover certain birth control methods.
Employers are required to cover these services under the Affordable Care Act, which Trump has made calls to repeal. Other services include breast and cervical cancer screenings, prenatal care and HIV screenings.
President Trump nor his administration have commented on the take down of the government's reproductive rights website. Along the same lines, he's left abortion rights up to individual states.
According to Planned Parenthood, abortions are accessible or mostly accessible in less than 23 states. Others have restrictions or eliminated access following recent activity around Roe v. Wade.
However, the FDA has approved the administration of Mifepristone, in a regimen with misoprostol. The medication abortion has been deemed effective when used correctly.
Disproportionately affected by the lack of access to reproductive rights are Black women, people of color, low-income individuals, people that live in rural areas and youth.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade has only amplified the impact of limited access on these marginalized communities. Here are sites where reproductive rights information is still accessible.
State websites' department of justice, where abortion is still legal, offer information about reproductive rights. There's also the Center for Reproductive Rights website in addition to a number of women's health advocate outlets.
