Do you feel like you're neglecting yourself? Here are some self-care tips for Black mothers.
READ BOOKS BY BLACK AUTHORS
Reading can be very relaxing. But it can be eye-opening and inspiring to read a book by a Black author. After the kids are in bed, grab a book and have a read. Learning something while relaxing at the same time is an excellent form of self-care.
DO AT LEAST ONE SELF-CARE ACT EACH DAY
Try to take some time out of each day and dedicate it to your self-care. Whether it's taking a walk, picking flowers, or making your favorite dish, find something you can do for yourself every day.
MEDITATE
Meditation is one of the best forms of self-care you'll ever choose. Download a meditation app, practice breathing, and get in touch with your inner soul and emotions.
HUG YOUR CHILDREN
Self-care doesn't just have to involve you and only you. As a Black mother living in this world, your children can bring you hope for a better tomorrow and a sense of calmness.
SAY "NO"
Don't want to go to lunch with your friend on Saturday? Too overwhelmed with housework and school activities? Then, say no. It's okay to be selfish and preserve your sanity.
WRITE IT OUT
If you can't or don't want to talk to anyone about your issues, write it out. There's so much power in pen and paper.
GET RID OF NEGATIVE INFLUENCES
Protecting your energy is necessary for self-care. If a person is bringing you down, cut them out of your life.
EMBRACE YOUR EMOTIONS
Don't suppress your feelings; embrace them. Bottled-up emotions can be draining and overwhelming.
MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE THINGS YOU'RE GRATEFUL FOR
Cultivate a spirit of gratitude. Being grateful for things in your life will help you feel happier and more self-confident.
PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY
Take a break from social media and other distractions on your phone. Take this time to focus on your kids, attend a protest, or support local Black businesses.
