As New Year’s Day quickly approaches, so do the constant reminders to set your New Year’s resolutions. Your local gym will be packed for the first six weeks of the year, and will eventually empty back out as people begin to forget about the resolution they promised to keep this year. If you find yourself falling prey to the cycle of New Year’s resolutions, it’s time to break the cycle. Push yourself to go beyond the typical, run-of-the-mill resolutions. Here are 10 New Year’s resolutions that will help you live your best life in 2018:

1. Make more time for the things you love

Self-care is important, and being a little selfish is okay. If you like reading, but find you don’t have the time, MAKE THE TIME!

2. Keep a journal

Journaling is not only a good way to reflect on things going on in your life, but also allows you to become more self-aware. You’ll most likely appreciate being able to look back on your past experiences, especially if you’re going on any big trips this year!

3.  Incorporate meditation into your daily schedule

Meditation helps ground you, recharge your energy, and calm you. Stay centered and focused this year.

4. Get more involved in your community

Get to know the people around you — whether it’s through supporting small businesses or volunteering on the weekends, the people around you are a big part of your life! Getting more involved in your community can be rewarding in ways you don’t even realize.

5. Stay organized

Staying organized will help you reach your goals, whether personal or professional.

6. Do one thing that scares you each month

Breaking out of your comfort zone is one of the best ways to stimulate self-growth. This can be as easy as seeing a movie alone (personally something that scares me!) or skydiving. Push yourself to grow as a person!

7. Create a gratitude list

It’s so easy to feel as if the world is against you or that nothing in your life is going right. Creating a gratitude list is an easy way to keep yourself grounded and remind yourself of the good things in life. (Start one in the back of your new journal!)

8. Declutter

Crowded living space = crowded mind = unnecessary stress! Get rid of unnecessary clutter throughout the year, whether it’s furniture, clothes or knick-knacks.

9. Spend time with yourself

Spend time getting to know yourself. Even if you feel like you’re pretty established as an individual, spending time alone can be rewarding.

10. Create a visualization board and keep it updated

Seeing goals you’ve set out for yourself written down on paper is a great way to manifest your dreams. A visualization board is a great reminder of why you should push yourself every day!
