During the interview, Megan details the events that transpired that night on July 12, 2020. Including an intimate look inside her friendship with the alleged shooter, Tory Lanez. Here are four things we learned from Megan Thee Stallion on CBS This Morning:

Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez had a really close relationship

During the interview, Megan Thee Stallion details her relationship with Tory Lanez, calling him a “really close” friend who she spent time with every day. The pair, along with Megan’s former friend Kelsey Harris, attended a party at reality star, Kylie Jenner’s, home that night. She recalls that the argument started in the car ride home because she was ready to leave. “We fussed about silly stuff all the time,” she says, alluding to the playful and harmless dynamic of their friendship. However, this particular argument escalated into an alleged altercation that Megan didn’t see coming. “It shouldn’t have gotten this crazy” she says, holding back tears.

It was a witness who called the police for help

Megan tearfully recounts crawling to someone’s driveway after the shooting for fear further escalation. According to the “Savage” rapper, immediately following the shooting, Lanez apologized profusely and offered her one million dollars to keep the incident under wraps. She admits to not wanting police intervention however a witness who heard the gunshots called for help. With the 2020 death of George Floyd a recent event at that time she feared the worst when law enforcement arrived. When officers asked what happened to her foot, she responded that she had stepped on glass. “For some reason, I was trying to protect all of us because I didn’t want them to kill us. My first reaction still was to try to save us. I didn’t want to see anybody die.”

There are small bullet fragments still embedded in her foot today

In a video obtained by TMZ, Megan Thee Stallion can be seen leaving a trail of bloodied footprints as she limps away from the vehicle as instructed by police officers. Though many have speculated that Megan Thee Stallion is fabricating the shooting incident, an official medical report states that she was indeed shot, with shards of bullet fragments still embedded in her foot today. Though doctors were able to remove much of the larger bullets fragments, “tiny fragments of retained missile” are still lodged on the back of her Achilles’ heel. Photos of the injury show Megan’s badly wounded foot was sutured, and she is expected to recover.

All sides are confident about their day in court

To the skeptics who accuse Megan of falsifying the events that took place that night, she responds “I know this happened to me. I would rather it play out in court and the facts come out and everything comes out than me having to plead my case.”

Similarly, Shawn Holley, the attorney representing Tory Lanez, states that they also anticipate going to court to address the claims “including all its inconsistencies, discrepancies and omissions” made by Megan Thee Stallion.

While both camps remain optimistic, the quality and quantity of the evidence obtained from the incident are likely to break the score. In a newly released statement, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office stated that “we believe the evidence substantially supports the charges and allegations and that evidence will be borne out in court.”
