“Abbott Elementary” creator and Emmy winner Quinta Brunson has been catching all the wins lately. Her latest? Being named comedy star of the year by The Hollywood Reporter for 2022.

The Philadelphia bred actress sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk all about the current status of the comedy genre, a life changing run in with Paul Rudd, setting boundaries and making it clear that she just wants “to make a good TV show”

She even touched on the extension in episodes of the show’s second season. “It’s not a concern of producing all of these stories,” she says. “It’s about making sure that things run smoothly, trying to make sure my cast and I don’t burn out. Because it is a lot.”

The sitcom which is a mockumentary style show about an underserved Philadelphia grammar school, has hooked about 7 million weekly viewers across platforms in its first season. It follows the story of Janine Teagues, a second-grade teacher at Abbott Elementary, who is dedicated to the success of her students. The cast includes Tyler James Williams, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, Janelle James, and Sheryl Lee Ralph. The show even received a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
