The buzz around town is that SZA is dropping new music any day now. After five-and-half years and false promises of new music, SZA’s fans are eagerly awaiting album #2.
Just recently, TIME Magazine dropped its annual TIME 100 Next List for 2022, honoring 100 people (spread across Artists, Phenoms, Innovators, Leaders, and Advocates) who the publication thinks are making a difference of some kind in the world. Making the list was SZA herself who was also one of four honorees to land on one of the special issue’s covers.
When she posted the accomplishment to her Twitter she pinned the message, “This is actually kinda nuts. New era loading.” She also included an hourglass emoji before thanking TIME and Lizzo. Could this emoji and “new era” possibly mean that the new album is loading? She said it herself that she estimates she’s sitting on 100 unreleased songs!
SZA’s First Album “Ctrl”
“Ctrl” dropped in 2017 and the album spawned 5 platinum singles and went 3x platinum itself.
She’s also had platinum singles such as “Good Days,” “Hit Different” and “I Hate U.”
She’s also appeared on other people’s tracks, including Kali Uchis’ “Fue Mejor,” Summer Walker’s “No Love,” a remix of Doechii’s “Persuasive,” and, of course, Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More,” which earned both performers their first Grammy Awards earlier this year.
She was most recently nominated for two awards at this year’s American Music Awards for Favorite Female R&B Artist and Favorite R&B song (“I Hate U”).
Uhhh I’m nominated for some #AMAs VOTE By posting a tweet from a public Twitter account with ALL of the following elements:
a Nominated Song Name OR Nominated Artist Name OR Nominated Album Name
b Official Category Name as listed above or as denoted HERE

SZA’s Album Delay
SZA’s first album, “Ctrl” being released in 2017, fans have been expecting a follow up album for years now.
There’s been a back and forth about the delay of her album and according to SZA, the delay is due to TDE and TDE President Terrence “Punch” Henderson.
However, Punch recently sat down on Math Hoffa’s ‘Expert Opinion’ podcast and hinted that SZA can drop the album whenever she’s ready.
New Music From SZA
Outside SZA teasing fans with the “new era” message, she just released the trailer to her new single dropping on Friday.
She took to Instagram to post the teaser video and encouraged supporters to pre-save or pre-add track.
The video stars LaKeith Stanfield and we see SZA tap into a badass who points out to LaKeith what energy is.
