It’s not every day a budding recording artist, entrepreneur and author gets to sing before a crowd of 4,000 plus people, but that’s exactly what happened to Shannon Sherrell after she reluctantly decided to give herself a break and enjoy a few days in Atlanta.

“It’s a funny story actually,” Sherrell said. "My friend planned the entire trip, complete with attending the Millennium Tour. Honestly, I wasn’t too excited about it heading into the week of our trip, but I ended up going, and we had the time of our lives!”

Sherrell captures quick 'usie' with Mario After chance run-ins with celebrities like Kandi Burruss and Mario, Sherrell was at the right place at the right time when concert host and comedian Gary Johnson searched the crowd for aspiring singers on the first night of the Millennium Tour in ATL, Thursday, April 4.

“He said, ‘I’m going to make somebody famous tonight, who can sing?’” Sherrell recalled. “I jumped up and made my way to the front of the stage.”

Sherrell noticed that Johnson was walking up to those who wanted their 10-seconds in the spotlight, but she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“I was finally like, ‘why not just walk to him?’”

That’s exactly what she did.

Sherrell confidently grabbed the mic, introduced herself as @HairByShannonSherrell — yes, not only does Sherrell have gifted vocal abilities, she is also a licensed beautician and business owner, owning not one but two beauty establishments in Tallahassee, Florida. Sherrell is also the author of her new memoir, God is the Recipe.

Sherrell confidently belted out the first few verses of Patti LaBelle’s “If Only You Knew,” while the crowd happily sang along. The quality and beauty of Sherrell’s voice, however, was undeniable throughout.

“I felt like that’s what I was supposed to do,” Sherrell said. “I was confident, ready, excited and the crowd was definitely feeling the same. I felt liberated. My first performance was at the age of 4 at church, and at that moment, I got the same feeling I had at the age of 4. I feel very blessed to have had that opportunity.”

Sherrell also has advice for those looking to make their dreams come true.

"I advise people to write out their short-term and long-term goals," she said. "I’d also advise them to knock those goals out, all while having faith that God will give them all their heart desires. The key is to persevere through all of the hardship that comes your way while doing so. God wants to see how bad you want it, remember everything happens for a reason. Always remember #GodIsTheRecipe."
