BAPE has had the streetwear game on lock during some of the biggest moments in pop culture. Now the brand has entered its 30th year in business and remains one of the leading brands with a finger on the pulse of fashion. To celebrate, BAPE took to the NYC streets with a fashion show, displaying new looks and fun twists on some of the brand’s classic styles. The creative design behind the hair styles in the show, using Bumble and Bumble products, really set the tone for the events.

Getting The BAPE Look Together

Lead hair stylist for the show, Evanie Frausto, spoke with 21Ninety about the types of looks the creative team wanted to put on display.

“There’s different categories of the looks and some of it is gravitating more towards the street style of BAPE,” he explained. “We’re kind of doing this cute, fun, raver girl with plats and doing some beading. We’re kind of mixing this street and festival thing.”

With over 100 diverse models for the show, each with their own specific hair textures, it was important to the BAPE team to honor everyone’s individuality.

“A lot of these looks are not using any heat at all. For a lot of the models with a looser texture, we’re focusing more on using the right products like Thickening Spray by Bumble and Bumble, and Strong Hold Hair Spray,” Frausto detailed. “And people with more textured hair, we’re using the Sumo Gel by Bumble and Bumble, which is almost like an edge control to me. So we’re using that to cornrow.”

The show consisted of several categories from different designers like Bapey, Apee, Aape, and more. Each category with its own individual style from head to toe.

The show’s run included a presentation of each category with models walking the runway. It concluded with performances from some of the street’s rawest artists. Lola Brooke and Coi Leray graced the stage with performances of a lifetime.
