In the age of social media and the endless stream of picture perfect (ahem – photo edited) lives on our timelines, we are feeling the pressure now more than ever to perform.

While a lot of people may appear to be #livingtheirbestlife, we don’t always know what it took for them to get their place of success, or if all is really as it appears on the surface.

Instead of letting social media drag you into the comparison trap, why not stay focused and committed to what’s happening in your lane, sis? No one can do you better than you, so it’s best to stay focused on your gifts and cheer yourself on along the way. Let’s be real – your success is inevitable, so why not celebrate it in advance!

Here are some things to remember if things start to feel like they’re dragging for you on your path:

IT’S A MARATHON – NOT A SPRINT

I’m sure you’ve heard this one before, and it’s repeated so often because it’s 100% true. The road to our dreams requires patience, trust and surrender. Reaching our goals doesn’t happen overnight, and not every step you take may appear to be directly correlated with your desired outcome.

Sometimes a stepping stone on the way to your dreams may come in the form of a friendship, or another new connection that will open a door for you that leads you closer to your goal. It’s important to remember that each of these steps is key to getting you to where you need to go. Trust the breadcrumbs the universe is leaving out for you. Each one is significant, and when you find it, that’s a win, so don’t forget to celebrate, sis!

IT’S ALL ABOUT SELF-LOVE

Being your own cheerleader is one of the best ways to deepen your self-love practice. Remember that you are always doing the best you can with what you have, so don’t be so hard on yourself. What is meant for you will come to you. It’s impossible to miss what God has planned, therefore you are never really a step out of place.

Whenever you feel like you’re not doing enough, or that you’re not doing things the “right” way, remember that each one of us has a unique path. Even if you aren’t where you want to be in this very moment, you are definitely on your way. No one else has your vision and no one else has your specific skills to match it, and when you remember this you will be unstoppable.

LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE

Remaining in a positive frame of mind is not only good for our mental and emotional health, but because of the law of attraction, this mindset also attracts similar circumstances and people.

When you feel good, you attract good – it’s just that simple. When you are grateful for what you have and for how far you’ve come, you will attract more positive experiences and opportunities to match that energy. And that just means more to celebrate!

YOU KNOW YOU BEST

Only you know your past, your personal blocks, and what it took you to get where you are presently. While it may appear that others are miles ahead of you, maybe you just had to overcome more to get to where you are today, and that’s okay!

When you start to feel that comparison creep in, remember to honor and respect your unique journey and all that you’ve endured to get to where you are. No one knows your backstory, and you don’t know anyone else’s, so comparing your paths is just a waste of time.

If you’re having a hard time remembering this pull out your journal and write down a list of everything you’ve done to date to get you to where you are. Come back to that list time and time again when you’re feeling low so you remember just how much of a champ you are.
