In 2016, the release of “Lemonade” ushered in a new era for Beyoncé. The body of work made her much more relatable in the public eye. The icon has solidified herself as a role model worldwide, and the recent news that broke only makes her much more appealing and proves why she is a fan favorite. We found out that the singer asked for her image in the original movie poster for “Austin Powers in Goldmember” to be redone.
At the time, the singer said that the poster for the movie in which she starred made her appear unrealistically thin. In a world where women’s bodies are scrutinized, here’s why this stands out.

She Has Addressed This Before:

This is not the first time the mother of three has been in the news for embracing her body and being honest about weight and the complications of weight gain and self-image after giving birth. The singer, who has been in the public eye since she was a young girl, revealed that one of the biggest hit songs she wrote and performed with Destiny’s Child was “Bootylicious,” which was a response to people who criticized her for gaining weight when she was 19. Bey also famously referred to her “FUPA” (“fatty upper pubic area”)in a 2018 interview with Vogue Magazine and discussed the struggles that she faced with weight and body acceptance after the birth of her twins.

She is Candid:

When Beyoncé first released “Lemonade,” it was her first time significantly discussing issues of race, the hurt that can come from love and the different ebbs and flows that exist within being Black. This meant a lot to many Black women because she recognized her influence and power and still leveraged that to make a statement that many Black women could relate to. The celebrity world sometimes feels otherworldly and out of reach, so hearing someone like Beyoncé discuss these very real issues in candid detail made many women feel like they were not alone.

Body Acceptance: In a 2021 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, The “BREAK MY SOUL” shared that she had struggled with diet culture and body acceptance. At one point, she felt as though working out and eating well was all that was needed to be healthy, but she realized that she also needed to take care of her mind and embrace self-care from a holistic point of view. Beyonce shared that, like many of us, she was overly conscious of her body; she had come to learn that inner peace of mind and body acceptance are among the most important things to prioritize. Many women are realizing that self-care is all-encompassing, and the fact that Brazilian Butt Lift surgeries are on a gradual decline is solid proof that we are on the verge of a renaissance that is ushering in an era of self-love, self-care and body acceptance.
