Black women are superheroes every single day. Confronting a world that seemingly does not see the value of their worth, while excelling in all that they do. Existing as a Black woman is a heroic feat in itself.
However, beyond the confines of reality, there are many heroic characters in cinematic history portrayed as black women. They’ve inspired generations of Black women to assume the fullness of their capabilities and dream a little larger. Here are six of those incredible Black female superheroes, who continue to inspire from childhood well into adulthood.
Storm
Storm, born Ororo Munroe, is one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel universe. She possesses the ability to control the weather. Her powers include summoning lightning, creating tornadoes, and manipulating atmospheric conditions, making her a formidable force in battle. She stands particularly as one of the first major Black female superheroes in comic history. Her character often tackles social issues, making her a reflection of real-world struggles and triumphs.
