Solange Knowles is a Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter who has managed to not only produce bodies of work that serve as a modern, intimate “portrayal of Blackness and Black womanhood,” but who also used her platform to create spaces, like Saint Heron, which allows for thought-provoking, radical conversation centered around a variety of subjects like art, design, architecture, fashion and literature.
Knowles is no stranger to praise for her work, as she received the inaugural Lena Horne Prize, back in January of 2020, which honors the intersection of arts and activism; and is now confirmed to receive the 2022 NYU Global Trailblazer Award for Creative and Artistic Excellence on International Women’s Day.
In honor of International Women’s Day, NYU will also be launching a program called NYU Women Lead: A Global Leadership Accelerator, which will celebrate and amplify “the prolific work of global women trailblazers – past and present – while centering intersectional equity and innovative leadership.” Dr. Lisa Coleman will sit down with Knowles for an in-depth conversation around this theme.
Register here to attend the event virtually on March 8th at 7:30 PM EST. And if that's not enough, take a look back at one of Solange’s most revered bodies of work here!
