The Lip Bar is a cruelty-free and vegan lipstick brand started by Melissa Butler, a black woman who knows a thing or two about creating high-quality bold lip products in a variety of finishes. And now, you can buy these black-owned products at your local Target starting on February 18.
The Lip Bar sells traditional lipsticks, metallic lipsticks and matte liquid lipsticks, and every product is available for less than $15 dollars. For high-quality, cruelty-free and vegan products, that price is a steal. And in the 43 Target stores in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, NYC and the DMV, there will be two Target exclusive products, "Baddie" lip gloss and "Unimpressed" liquid matte.
And although we love how affordable The Lip Bar is, what's more important is that the story behind the brand is super inspiring for anyone with a dream.
"Everywhere I looked, beauty companies, magazines and the TV were telling women that you need to look like a specific thing to be considered beautiful," Butler says on thelipbar.com, "I hated that. So I started making lipstick in my kitchen because I believed beauty shouldn't compromise health and because I was determined to not change the way I looked to fit into some superficial or trendy beauty standard."
We love when people and brands make a point to represent beauty beyond the status quo. And to represent that AND take care of yourself with healthy ingredients in bold and beautiful colors is next level.
"Simply put, I think every woman deserves to be represented," Butler says, "So I do this not for the love of makeup, but for the love of women who are unapologetically themselves and the women working up the courage to be."
