For many years, the Carters have given us all a reason to swoon over their beautiful family portraits. Blue Ivy Carter, the firstborn of the Carter dynasty, has grown before our very eyes, and there have been specific moments that she has shared with her famous Dad Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, that have stuck with us over the years. Here are a few.
“Gold Sippy Cup”
Having Jay-Z and Beyoncé as parents means that you get shouted out on during award show ceremonies. During Jay-Z’s Grammy acceptance speech in 2014 for his song “Holy Grail,” the veteran rapper gave a shout-out to then-two-year-old Blue. She was not in attendance that night, but managed to become one of the most talked-about people of the event. In his speech, Jay-Z says,
“…And I want to tell Blue, ‘Look! Daddy’s got a gold sippy cup for you,” Jay-Z said in reference to the gold-colored gramophone award.
“Dad, My Hair”
Every Black girl knows the struggle of maintaining curl pattern after a salon day. In this cute father-daughter moment, Blue was sure to let her Dad know that her curls were important. During Game five of the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics, the now 11-year-old shared a sweet courtside moment with her father. As the camera zoomed into the duo, Hov pulled his daughter in and gave her a kiss on the cheek. The younger Carter instantly beamed before apparently saying, “Dad, my hair!”
Photo Duty
During an appearance at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona for the Super Bowl, Jay-Z was on photo duty for his 11-year-old, who was donned in all-black street style, and wanted to get a mid-air photo. Of course the “Mood Forever” rapper made sure to get a few good shots in, as well as all the right angles.
This Moment
During a joint performance for a “Forever Young/Halo” mash up, Jay and Blue made quite the impression when a snippet of the clip zoomed into Blue, who was a toddler at the time, attempting to heavy lift her musical giant father on her back.
This “Flawless” Moment
Toddlers have a way of bringing color to every situation. In this specific moment, Blue and Jay were enjoying a Beyoncé performance of “Flawless.” Although the video is grainy, Blue can be seen breaking out into a mini-routine of the song. She does this a couple of times until her father amusingly notices.
“It Hurt My Feelings”
During a sit-down with David Letterman, the Brooklyn native told Letterman a story about an adorable moment he shared with Blue. During the conversation, Jay mentioned that on a recent trip to school at the time, Blue who was six at the time, had some feedback for him.
“I told her to get in the car the other day ’cause she was asking a thousand questions and we had to leave for school,” said Jay-Z. “So, we’re driving and I just hear a little voice, ‘Dad, I didn’t like when you told me to get in the car, the way you told me. It hurt my feelings.'”
The “Bam” rapper went on to say that he had told his daughter that that was the most beautiful thing she had ever said to him.
