If you’ve been on a weight-loss journey, then you know how hard it can be to lose weight and keep it off. From cutting out certain foods, to spending more time being active, shedding pounds isn’t always easy. TikTok’s body recomposition trend may be the answer you need to unlock your weight loss dreams. It’s a fitness trend that supposedly helps lose weight and get a bomb physique in the process.

“It’s changing your body in the best ways,” certified personal trainer Jannah Brockington told 21Ninety.

With fitness fads permeating the internet, it may be hard to know which method is best to achieve your fitness goals. Here’s everything you need to know about TikTok’s body recomposition trend and why Brockington says it truly works.

What is the Body Recomposition Trend?

Body recomposition may be a new trending term to some, but the concept is old. Its a fitness plan that helps you simultaneously lose fat and build muscle.

“Body recomposition is when we add strength training and a high-protein diet in addition to monitoring our calories so that we build muscle and lose fat,” Brockington told 21Ninety.

The concept has since started trending on TikTok, with #bodyrecomposition already garnering over 49,000 videos. It may be popular because people claim you’ll no longer rely on the scale as a barometer for fitness success. Body recomposition claims to make your clothes fit differently, make you look different in the mirror and have you lose visible inches from your body.

Is Body Recomposition Real?

According to Brockington, who has been working out consistently since 2018, body recomposition is far from a fad.

“Body recomposition is real,” she told 21Ninety. “But, what gets misunderstood is the timeframe it takes. It’s not quick.”

The trainer shared that while losing fat can sometimes be quick, building muscle is another story. “If you’ve never worked out a day in your life and want to do a complete 180, you have some weeks and even years ahead of you before you start to see your dream physique,” she said.

How Do You Engage in Body Recomposition?

When it comes to fitness trends, it’s important to research the validity and practice it safely. Brockington says body recomposition starts in the gym and going three times a week.

“When you want to start lifting a significant amount of weight, you’re going to need what a gym offers,” she said. “Keep doing the same exercises to track your progress. Focus on tracking your workouts and making sure you’re increasing your weight each week.”

Doing the same gym moves are repetitive, but your body can’t progress if you don’t allow it to adjust to the routine. What you eat matters too, of course.

“You want to be in a modest calorie deficit,” she said. “Eat high protein and high-quality foods. Keep that up for a few months, and you’ll start to see some progress.”

How To Motivate Yourself

Whether you’re starting a fitness journey, or trying to find ways to stay consistent, having motivation is key. Since body recomposition doesn’t happen overnight, Brockington stressed the importance of categorizing your dream physique plan.

This could look like drinking two liters of water everyday, getting 10,000 steps a week or eating vegetables with every meal. In any stage, Brockington stressed the importance of body positivity at any stage.

“When I meet with my clients weekly, we talk about those small wins — the things that we did well in the week — that motivates you to go into the next week, and it all adds up,” she told 21Ninety. “Regardless of where you are in your journey, you have to love yourself at every step of the process.”
