Boston Red Sox first baseman and designated hitter David Ortiz (affectionately known as “Big Papi”) is a Dominican baseball legend and current sports announcer in the MLB. At 17 years old, he joined the league via the Seattle Mariners before being traded to the Twins and later, the Red Sox. 13 years spent with the latter team would seal Ortiz’s name into sports history. Over the course of his career, Ortiz received the Babe Ruth Award in 2013 and the Roberto Clemente Award in 2011.

He also managed to start a family while tirelessly running bases, marrying and welcoming two children with his then-wife, Tiffany. Since then, Ortiz and his ex have separated, but he’s welcomed a new baby with a different woman that’s left him with a lot to celebrate. On top of that excitement, the 48-year-old is being featured in a new baseball documentary on Netflix titled The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox, which has left fans searching for more information on Big Papi’s personal life.

In 1995, David “Big Papi” Ortiz welcomed his first child, a daughter named Jessica, with former partner Fary Alamanzar Fernandez. She currently lives in the Dominican Republic and in 2020, issued a restraining order against her co-parent. This occurred just one year after the Hall of Famer was shot and wounded in his home country. It’s undetermined whether the shooting has been connected to any disputes. It also remains unknown whether Ortiz and Fernandez manage any sort of relationship as the baseball player has been prohibited from contacting her electronically, per the NY Post.

David Ortiz and Tiffany Were Married in 2002

About four years into his professional career, Ortiz met his soon-to-be-wife, Tiffany, at a bar in Wisconsin, Miami Herald reports. He was a minor league player for the Seattle Mariners before the couple tied the knot in 2002.  Together, the Ortiz’s welcomed two children during their marriage, ahead of their first split in 2003. Reconciling just a year later, David and Tiffany would stay together for 18 more years before getting a divorce in 2021 after 25 years together. “Over the past 25 years, David and I have shared a beautiful adventure in love and partnership. We have made the decision to go into a new phase of our life journey together, not as a couple, but as friends and co-parents to our amazing children,” she wrote in an Instagram statement at the time.

All of Ortiz’s children have managed to keep a low profile out of the spotlight except for his oldest son, D’Angelo. One of two children shared with ex-wife Tiffany, the aspiring MLB star made plans out of high school to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career as a baseball player. Since graduating, D’Angelo Ortiz has signed with the Texas Rangers, receiving a $225, 000 signing bonus. David Ortiz has expressed excitement about the talent and hard work of his son and looks forward to witnessing the trajectory of his career.

Big Papi’s Current Girlfriend Recently Birthed His Fourth Child

Ortiz’s girlfriend, Maria Yerebel, first posted a photo of herself pregnant in January 2024 in a holiday-themed Instagram photo that would be followed by a maternity photoshoot just two months later. Yerebel’s feed features several photos of herself with “Big Papi” Ortiz prior to and during their pregnancy; his profile also features the same photo she posted from her pregnancy photoshoot. It’s also been reported that the couple began dating back in 2019, although photos of Yerebel with the Dominican baseball player didn’t begin appearing on her Instagram feed until 2023.

Ortiz Celebrates Family And the Growth Of His Career

For now, it’s undetermined whether the new parents have plans to wed, although they appear to still be in celebratory mode over their son. A recent photo of the couple and little Diego on social media shows how happy the growing family is together. Outside of his personal life, Ortiz’s feed has plenty of content from his work as a full-time studio analyst with MLB On FOX since 2019.

Now, five years later, Ortiz is being celebrated via Netflix’s three-part docuseries called The Comeback 2004: Boston Red Sox which credits the star player’s two-run homer in the 12th inning as a game changing moment in the Red Sox-Yankees 2004 series. Are you feeling the sports content coming from the streamer lately?
