The quick answer: yep. There’s no way around this. While brown and darker skin has a natural “protection” against sun damage and sun burn from their increased amount of melanin, the truth is that they still need to wear sunscreen.

Some women with darker skin may have a natural SPF of 13, but that doesn’t mean that more SPF isn’t required and that you aren’t susceptible to skin cancer. In addition, you want to keep your skin clear away from sun spots, and even wrinkles that excess sun exposure can cause on your skin.

Dermatologists usually suggest that everyone wear an SPF of 15 or higher, no matter what their complexion.

So, we’re sorry brown and dark beauties, but you for sure need to get your hands on some SPF, and soon.
