A New Direction

Doja Cat has been building anticipation for her upcoming project for quite some time now. She has mostly left cryptic messages before revealing full information. Before releasing the teaser for “Attention”, she had posted a cover art for the song on Instagram without revealing the title. The artwork features a splatter of blood in the shape of an A turned upside down.

However, she has since called the artwork a placeholder and confirmed that project’s title. Doja Cat has said she intends to go in a vastly different direction for her upcoming album. She called her previous albums “Hot Pink” and “Planet Her” cash grabs, saying, “now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

The singer has been fighting to be recognized for her rap as much as she is for her pop and r&b tracks.

She has repeatedly insisted that she is indeed a rapper, although none of her works are ever recognised as such. As an expose in Pitchfork notes, “Doja Cat is a rapper. How closely they follow or don’t follow tradition shouldn’t make that any more or less true.”

Fans have showed their enthusiasm over the upcoming work.
