Let’s be real. The music industry is a cutthroat and lucrative space that has many female rappers contending for Billboard charts, Grammy nominations, and top-of-the-chart music ladders on a global scale. Black female rappers, in particular, have always fought for a seat at the table, and now that the music industry is more inclusive of all women from all walks of life, there is more than enough space for everyone to win.
Erica Banks, best known for her “Buss It” single that went viral on Tik Tok, recently spoke out on Revolt TV stating that she’s been trying to reach out to Nicki for a collab and feels that the rapper has been ignoring her and highlighting other artists.
“Well you know I love Nicki but I just feel like I’ve been trying to reach out to her for a long time and I just feel like she kind of ignores me and I feel like she entertains the girls that really don’t know how to rap.” Said Erica To Revolt TV.
She continues, “Some people may get mad at me for saying that, it’s the truth, everybody cant rap and I’m not saying that because I’m a rapper, I’m saying that because everybody’s not gonna say it.”
Nicki Minaj, one of the most prominent rap artists in the music industry to date, has held a reigning seat in the industry for over 12 years. From her hit song ‘Super Bass’ that ranked number 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart to her notorious collab with Beyoncé for the making of ‘Flawless’, The 39-year-old has many wins for Black female rap artists that include opening doors and creating a more inclusive space for Black women in rap. The rapper has also collaborated with a plethora of different artists which include other Black female rappers such as Coi Leray, Doja Cat, Bia, and others.
