It’s no secret that Black women experience higher health disparities than white women. According to The Washington Post, “They experience higher rates of infant and maternal mortality, lower rates of cervical and ovarian cancer survival, and less access to hospice care. Even menopause is different, with Black women experiencing more hot flashes and night sweats than White women.”

Erykah Badu is one of the many Black women that are coming forward to talk about their health. In a recent Instagram post, Badu discussed her menopause journey at 51.

“Peace Peace I’m 51. let’s talk about the flowering of menopause… Blessed with The time when A QUEEN truly TAKES HER THROWN (throne) . Oh it t can be a lonely place if we aren’t careful. Coming To Terms With Her Age And Menopause Symptoms

Badu isn’t the only celebrity to discuss her aging process along with her menopause journey. In a recent Today interview, Tracee Ellis Ross discussed her 50th birthday and her own battle with menopause.

“There’s certain things that are really strange. I am in perimenopause and hot flashes come up like a personal summer just entered from the inside,” she joked. “But I feel like I am wiser, I’m more comfortable in my skin,” she said in her interview.
