For any of the girls using eye care products regularly, you know the importance of good quality. Your eye health is sacred, especially during allergy season or when using items like contact lenses. That’s why eye care product recalls are so important to pay attention to, as the potential for any damage to your eyes can be a terrifying thought.
Here’s everything to know about the recent eye care product recall and whether or not anything you own has been impacted.
What is the Eye Care Product Recall?
On April 23rd, 2025, BRS Analytical Services, a contract testing laboratory, initiated a voluntary recall of nearly 76,000 cases, which equates to over 1.8 million cartons, of eye care products distributed nationwide.
These products were manufactured by the pharmaceutical company AvKare and distributed between May 26th, 2023, and April 21st, 2025. The recall was issued following concerns over sterility and violations of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP), which are crucial when it comes to product safety and quality.
The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, which is the second-highest warning rating. That means that the use of these products can cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. The probability of serious health issues are unlikely, yet possible.
Why Were These Eye Care Products Recalled?
Because of deviations from cGMP, there’s a lack of assurance for sterility in the manufacturing process. This can lead to products of unacceptable quality, posing potential health risks to consumers like you. Luckily, no specific adverse effects have been reported. However, the possibility of contamination cannot be ruled out, prompting the precautionary recall.
AvKare has advised consumers to stop using the affected products immediately and to review lot numbers and expiration dates to determine if they own any of the recalled items. Customers with recalled products can contact AvKare for return and credit, with all costs covered.
Which Eye Care Products Were Recalled?
