From BBLs to pilates bodies, beauty standards are constantly changing, forcing women to reshape themselves in order to meet what society deems as enough. Lately, however, the rhetoric seems to be shifting, as women are reclaiming their right to be exactly as they are. While FUPAs were once exaggerated to be the most unattractive trait a woman can possess, TikTok has been home to a very empowering trend. Rather than continue to bombard the internet with tips and tricks on how to lose your FUPA, more and more women are giving tips on how to style their FUPAs and men are sharing just how attractive they find FUPAs to be.
What Is a FUPA?
FUPA, which stands for fatty upper pubic eras, refers to a layer of fat that can accumulate in the lower abdomen, above the pubic bone and between the hips. It’s a difficult area to target in exercise, though planks, leg lifts and knee tucks prove to be effective— if you even want to lose it, that is.
With flat stomachs glorified and put on a pedestal, many women over the course of decades have been pressured to starve and sweat themselves into the smallest version of their bodies, though FUPAs are natural and not necessarily indicative of any health implications. The dialogue around FUPAs has begun to evolve online, with many women sharing sentiments of losing weight and still having a FUPA and deciding to embrace their tummies rather than reprimand them.
TikTok user Iesha Gilchrist shared FUPA fashion styling tips, while others are sharing a realistic glimpse of what their otherwise concealed FUPAs really look like. And for the young users still growing into body acceptance, users like Bree Lenehan are sharing empowering lower belly content that could have been medicinal for their own inner children. Men have also joined the conversation, adding how comforting it is to cuddle with a girl’s FUPA. While men’s approval is certainly no antidote, it’s worth acknowledging when their input is actually uplifting.
Love Your FUPA
Let’s close with this: there’s nothing you should look like other than yourself. It’s great to have goals and strive to be your healthiest, but thinness doesn’t equate to vitality and having a FUPA doesn’t equate to being unhealthy— if anything, it’s just indicative of having a uterus. Embrace the pooch and reject any conditioning that strips you away of your organic and unconditional desirability.
