Over recent years, podcasts have seen a steady rise in popularity. According to Edison Research, 70 percent of Americans are now familiar with the term “podcasting” and more than 5 in 10 have listened to a podcast themselves. By the year 2020, the digital-activated devices market is expected to double in those numbers. With the growth of this new industry comes the demand for new and exciting content, especially from underrepresented voices vying for a platform to tell their stories.

Are you interested in making a podcast, but not sure how to get started? The Google Podcasts Creator Program, run by PRX, is seeking to "increase the diversity of voices in the industry globally and lower barriers to podcasting." In their effort to make it easy for people to learn how to get into this growing medium, the open call for podcast ideas will select six teams to receive "up to US $40,000, mentorship, and 20 weeks of training, in Boston and virtually at scheduled intervals."
