After reports were released that there has not been a single No. 1 hip-hop hit in 2023, Gracie’s Corner may have come to the rescue. The children’s Youtube channel has collaborated with NOLA bounce queen, Big Freedia, for the remix of the classic nursery rhyme “Row Your Boat.” The two may have even given the hip-hop community the song of the summer.
The new track already has 641,000 views on Youtube.
Fully grown adults have chimed in about the song, alluding to the fact that the song was actually made for grown folks. One user tweeted, “Uhhh, I can totally see the whole club turning up for this one!”
Another user tweeted in hopes that a DJ mixes this new track with their Beyoncé fav. “When they mix this with CHURCH GIRL at the next function >>>>>>>,” they said.
Gracie’s Corner’s Success
The children’s Youtube channel show has over 2 million subscribers on YouTube since launching in 2020. The channel doesn’t only have nursery rhymes. Gracie’s Corner also features videos that teach kids how to learn the alphabet and about Black history. It even helps with coping skills like how to deal with bullies.
In an interview with Essence, creators Javoris Hollingsworth and Arlene Gordon-Hollingsworth shared the process of scriptwriting for the show. “It usually starts with us trying to understand exactly what parents will find value in,” Javoris said. “What would you like for your child to learn?”
Their 10-year-old daughter, Gracelyn voices the main character, Gracie.
