Getting older means revolving much of your life around taking care of yourself. From financially to spiritually, it takes commitment, effort and discipline to make sure you’re well. While the benefits of being physically active are countless, that doesn’t mean it won’t sometimes get boring.

Gym burnout, a sense of fatigue that comes from overtraining or finding your fitness routine monotonous, is incredibly common. It can manifest through irritability, as well as changes in appetite and sleep. If you find yourself struggling to get through a workout despite feeling motivated, then here are some tips to help revitalize.

Try Something New

There are so many interesting and dynamic ways to break a sweat. From rock climbing to swimming, switch your fitness routine up by challenging your body to do something completely new. You can walk away with new skills, like self defense from a boxing class, and set your inner child free, like finally taking a ballet class.

Bring Activity Into Your Day To Day

Walk to the nearest coffee shop for your daily brew. Opt for the stairs rather than the elevator. Meet with friends to go for a hot girl walk rather than a sedentary activity. Park further away from the store to allot for some steps. There are plenty of ways to bring physical movement into your daily life, making exercise something you live in rather than show up to.

Group Fitness

As run clubs skyrocket in popularity, the benefits of group fitness become more evident. It not only is a social opportunity, but also adds an element of fun and accountability to your workout. With everyone going through the pain and sweat together, the sense of community can be the necessary push to get to the end of your workout.

Take a Rest

There’s nothing more important for growing muscles than recovery time, and the same goes for a withered spirit. If you’re feeling burnt out from your gym routine, then don’t be scared to take a week or more off. While many fear they’ll lose all their progress during the time off, the opposite is true. Your reset will allow you to return to fitness with a better ability to execute movement more efficiently and maintain a mind-muscle connection.

Sleep Well

Getting a full night’s rest can make all the difference when it comes to your mental and physical exhaustion. While many are simply striving to hit that seven-hour mark, studies show women benefit the most from eight to 10 hours of sleep. Limit screen time at least an hour before bed, brew up a chamomile and gift your body some deep REM.

Switch Up Your Playlist

Music can make or break anything, from a party to a workout. If you’re not feeling motivated by the music soundtracking your workout, consider curating an all-new playlist with songs that make you feel sexy and invincible. You can even make one centered on early 2000s jams or female empowerment anthems to remind you of your strength.

Self Care

Your body is your temple, and it’s important to remain in gratitude for all that it does for you. Besides resting and eating well, you’ll notice a major difference when offering self-care services, like massages, steam rooms, cold plunges and saunas. This not only helps with muscle soreness and fatigue, but also will release mental endorphins as well.
