Natural Cycles, a leading women’s digital health company, has joined hands with Postpartum Support International (PSI) for a groundbreaking campaign titled “Is Mommy Okay?” This collaboration, launched in honor of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month, features an array of high-profile mothers, spearheaded by the new mommy, Halle Bailey.
The campaign is a PSA video set in a whimsical 1950s sitcom-inspired world. Through this campaign, Natural Cycles and PSI aim not only to spark meaningful conversations but also to introduce crucial support systems for maternal mental health.
Halle Bailey’s Postpartum Journey
Bailey is among the prominent figures leading the charge to bring awareness to postpartum depression amongst many women. She has courageously shared her battles with her own journey after welcoming her son Halo with partner DDG.
“I have severe, severe postpartum [depression], and I don’t know if any new moms can relate,” Bailey recently confessed on her Snapchat.
Despite her immense love for Halo, Bailey admitted to grappling with overwhelming emotions and anxiety, making even short separations from her baby difficult.
Reflecting on her postpartum body, Bailey explained that she felt like a stranger in her own skin.
“I feel like a completely different person,” she shared. “When I look in the mirror, I just feel like I’m in a whole new body. Like, I don’t know who I am.”
Bailey, much like many new moms, didn’t realize the weight this would have had on her. It wasn’t until she was actually experiencing it, that she realized the toll it can take on a new mom.
“Before I had a child and I would hear people talk about postpartum, it would kind of just go in one ear and out the other,” Bailey reflected. “Now going through it, it almost feels like you’re swimming in this ocean that’s like the biggest waves you’ve ever felt and you’re trying not to drown. And you’re trying to come up for air.”
