Halle Berry On Aging

Berry says that she doesn’t see aging and menopause in the traditional way. Instead, she says she’s challenging all the stereotypes.

“I’m challenging everything I thought I knew about menopause, like, ‘Your life is over. You are disposable. Society no longer has a place for you. You should retire. You should pack it up,’” she said during the conversation. “I’m challenging all of those stereotypes: ‘You have to look a certain way, you have to feel a certain way.’ No, that’s not true. I’m my best self now that I reached 56 years old.”

The actress continued to share that there are some underrated aspects of getting older that society tends to overlook. Stepping into this phase of her life, for her, means that she is in control of herself. Berry says she feels she can wholeheartedly own everything she says and does because “it’s my point of view, and I have a right to have it.”

In the empowering video, Berry shares that she has come to terms with who she is. She has taken a step back from being in front of the camera and is focusing on directing. Her directorial debut for the film, “Bruised,” was released on Netflix in 2021. The star says directing changed her perspective entirely and told the outlet she refuses to return to who she was before becoming a director.

“I’ll never go back to being the person I was before I became a director,” she tells Women’s Health.” You cannot go back to just being the dancing bear. It’s impossible. I realize I always have my director hat on.”

The actress made sure to uplift other women also experiencing menopause.

“Own wherever you are,” she urged. “That’s where I’m at.”
