Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have built a new life in the United States, raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, away from the royal spotlight. Since stepping back from their royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have remained intentional about balancing their public work and private family moments. Though they keep their children largely out of the public eye, glimpses of Archie and Lilibet offer insight into their growing personalities.

In a rare public moment, the Sussexes shared a holiday card featuring an endearing photo of Archie and Lilibet. The image captured the siblings joyfully running toward their parents, offering a candid glimpse of their energy and bond.

As Archie and Lilibet grow up, many people can’t help but be curious about the young family and their new life in the U.S. Here’s everything to know about Harry and Meghan’s two children.

Prince Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor of Sussex was born on May 6, 2019 in London. He is the first child of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and is seventh in line to the throne.

“It’s magic,” Meghan said about becoming a first-time mom following Archie’s birth. “It’s pretty amazing and, I mean, I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”

He is named after Archibald Campbell, the 9th Earl of Argyll of Scotland. Archibald Campbell was an ancestor of Harry’s mother Princess Diana. Archie spent his earliest years in the U.K. before his parents moved to the U.S. Because their son was born during the pandemic, both parents shared their gratitude for the time spent completely quarantined together rather than distracted by work and travel.

“We were both there for Archie’s first steps, his first run, his first fall, everything,” Harry explained.

While raising Archie in California, Harry and Meghan cherished their ability to witness his early milestones without the pressures of royal life.

Lilibet “Lili” Diana

Princess Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on June 4, 2021, in Santa Barbara, California. She is eighth in line to the British throne.

“On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,” Harry and Meghan shared in a statement through their Archewell Foundation. “She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.”

Lili was named after her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname was Lilibet, and her grandmother, the late Princess Diana. Unlike her brother, Lili was born into the Sussexes’ independent life in California.

Does Lilibet Have Blue Eyes?

According to reports and rare photos of Lilibet, she appears to have blue eyes, which she may have inherited from her father, Prince Harry. The resemblance has sparked comparisons to Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, who also had striking blue eyes. During their Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” a previously unseen family photo showed Lilibet with light-colored eyes, adding to the speculation. However, like her brother, her features may continue to evolve as she grows.

What We’ve Learned from ‘With Love, Meghan’

Meghan Markle’s new show, “With Love, Meghan,” offers a fresh glimpse into her world and values. While much of the show focuses on self-care, empowerment, and handwritten letters, Meghan has occasionally mentioned motherhood. She speaks about the importance of raising confident and compassionate children and ensuring that Archie and Lili have a strong sense of identity. Though she keeps specific details about their daily lives private, Meghan emphasizes the joy of watching them grow up in a more relaxed environment.

Life in California

Harry, Meghan, their two children, and their three dogs live a relatively quiet life in Montecito, California. The couple has continued their humanitarian efforts, documenting trips to Nigeria and Colombia while maintaining a strong focus on their family.

Though far from the U.K., Harry has expressed gratitude for their life in the U.S. “I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here,” he shared. “It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was gonna live.”

Reflecting on his late mother’s hopes for him, Harry added, “I feel as though it’s the life that my mom wanted for me—to be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the U.K. It’s huge.”

Despite their decision to step back from royal duties, Harry and Meghan remain dedicated to shaping a bright future for Archie and Lili, embracing a life centered on love, purpose, and family.
