Did you watch the 90th annual Oscars ceremony last night? The red carpet was full of gorgeous gowns, stunning hairstyles and talented actresses from some of our favorite films from the past year. Both seasoned greats and newcomers alike impressed us with their work this past year, and the same rang true of their red carpet looks last night. Although we might not all have red carpet occasions on our agenda, there's no reason not to incorporate some of these style tips into your own life. Here are some of our favorite tips:

Don't be afraid to rock a bold color like Viola Davis

Viola Davis has never been one to shy away from bright colors on the red carpet, and we love that. Her confidence can be felt through our screens, and she reminds us that there's nothing wrong with standing out.

Get Zendaya's sleek top knot

Zendaya's hair, styled by Ursula Stephen, was created by first prepping her damp hair with Dove Style+Care Smooth & Shine Heat Protection Spray before blow drying it straight and sleeking it back with Suave Professionals Natural Hold Compressed Micro Mist Hairspray and TRESemmé Compressed Micro-Mist Hair Spray Hold Level 2: Smooth. The combination of these super affordable drugstore products leaves for no-nonsense fuss-free hair all night, no matter your event.

Represent your heritage with pride like Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany's red carpet gown is traditional of her Eritrean roots. She shows us the beauty in remaining true to yourself and expressing appreciation and love for who you are and where you come from.

Your hair can steal the show like Lupita Nyong'o

No one would say Lupita's gold one-shoulder leg wasn't a winning look, but her hair was too beautiful to ignore, even next to a flashy gold gown. Our favorite, Vernon Francois, created structure in her hair inspired by images of Amasunzu hairstyles, traditional to Rwandan culture.

Prioritize your comfort without sacrificing your style like Whoopi Goldberg

Although Whoopi's Christian Siriano gown looks stunning and red-carpet ready, she wasn't going to sacrifice comfort to look good. And you don't have to! Siriano gave the belted gown pockets (the sign of a perfect dress) and she even topped off the look with gorgeous sunglasses and true-to-her combat boots. We love the authenticity in this look.

There's never a bad time to rock curls of any style like Octavia Spencer

Whether you want to rock your natural curls, perfectly spiraled hair with the help of a curling iron, brushed out waves, etc., curls are the way to go. Octavias perfectly layered curls are sleek and fun, and they emphasize the beauty of her gown. Achieve a similar look with a heat protectant spray, a moisturizer like Dove Absolute Curls Supreme Crème Serum, blow dry your hair, and make these curls with a 1-inch curling iron like stylist David Stanwell did for Spencer. Finish the look off with hairspray to keep the curls intact.

Rock a custom lip shade like Taraji P. Henson

There is power in a bold lip. Taraji's makeup artist Ashunta Sheriff layered MAC's Cork lip liner under a combination of Lip Bar's Matte Creme in Savage and Drama Queen for this unique, red-carpet-ready shade. Try playing with your own lip combinations until you find the winning shade!
