Beloved actress Jasmine Guy has scored a nomination in this year’s 75th Annual Emmy Awards. This is Guy’s first Emmy nomination in her career and it is for her role as Barbara Baldwin on the Tubi series “The Chronicles of Jessica Wu.”
The official Instagram page for the series congratulated the star.
“We are happy to announce @iamjasmineguy has been NOMINATED for her role as Barbara Baldwin in the hit show Chronicles of Jessica Wu. This is Jasmine Guy’s FIRST nomination. We are truly honored to be part of history,” the series’ captioned.
According to the official IMDb page, the Tubi series centers around “a young girl on the Autism spectrum who has mastered martial arts. She becomes a Hero in her city and takes down some of the most ruthless villains in Los Angeles.” Jasmine Guy’s character Barbara Baldwin appears in an episode titled “Wanna Get Away?”
Guy was nominated in the category “Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series.” Others nominated alongside Guy were “Game of Thrones” actress Nathalie Emmanuel and Paula Pell.
Jasmine Guy’s Notable Roles
Although this is Guy’s first-ever Emmy nomination, she’s played in multiple television series and movies that shaped Black film and television culture.
The legendary actress, writer, and director is best known for her iconic role as Whitley Gilbert on the hit sitcom “A Different World.” Guy played the spoiled Southern belle for six seasons from 1987 to 1993. For her role, Guy won four consecutive NAACP Image Awards from 1990 through 1993 for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.”
Guy has also starred in “Harlem Nights,” “School Daze,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Living Single,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Dead Like Me,” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Before her role in “A Different World,” Guy had a non-speaking role as a dancer in the television series “Fame.”
