Love was in the air over the holiday weekend. Jay-Z’s mother, Gloria Carter, got married to her long-time partner, Roxanne Wiltshire, in a star-studded wedding.

TMZ first reported the wedding and its attendees. Names like Tyler Perry, Robin Roberts, Corey Gamble, and more attended the event to celebrate the nuptials. Jay-Z and Beyonce were, of course, front and center.

Beyoncé posted some images of the outfit she wore to the event on Instagram. Her peach-colored ensemble featured a Dolce & Gabbana corset bodysuit and a matching skirt. She topped the look off with a feathered jacket and a lace handbag. The couple’s firstborn child, Blue Ivy, also attended the ceremony wearing a sage green silk Reformation gown. Beyoncé and Blue were joined by Tina Knowles Lawson and cousin Angie Beyince.

The wedding itself was reported to have lasted until 1:00 a.m. That’s no surprise because there was a lot to celebrate. The couple has been together for some time.

In his 2017 song, “Smile,” the rapper opened up about his mother’s journey in coming out to him.

“Mama had four kids, but she’s a lesbian/Had to pretend so long that she’s a thespian/Had to hide in the closet, so she medicate/Society shame and the pain was too much to take,” he said in the song.

“Cried tears of joy when you fell in love/Don’t matter to me if it’s a him or her/I just wanna see you smile through all the hate/Marie Antoinette, baby, let ’em eat cake,” Jay-Z continued.

Carter also jumped on the song to discuss her own journey while “living in the shadows” as a queer woman.

At the 29th annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2018, she openly discussed her experiences a bit more as she accepted a special recognition award.

“One day, I met someone who made my heart sing, made me no longer want to sneak a peek at them but actually look at them with loving eyes. Love gave me the courage to take the power that I allowed other people to have over my life for fear of them revealing my secret that wasn’t really a secret,” she said.

“Here I am, I’m loving, I’m respectful, I’m productive, and I’m a human being who has a right to love who I love. So everybody, just smile, be free,” Carter added.
