What’s a better date night idea than seeing Beyoncé together? For a recent date night with her husband Doug Emhoff, Vice President Kamala Harris attended Beyoncé’s ongoing Renaissance World Tour. She wore a sparkly, gold button down collared shirt made by LaQuan Smith. The VP completed her look with white, wide legged pants and pointed heels. Harris posted a picture of herself and Emhoff on social media, with the caption “Thanks for a fun date night, @Beyonce!”
Harris and her partner attended the Washington D.C.-area stop of the tour and appeared to have had a fantastic time.
Supporting Black Designers
The VP has always supported Black fashion designers and her choice to wear fast rising fashion icon LaQuan Smith further highlighted that commitment. While speaking to Vogue about dressing the Vice President, Smith shared that Harris embodies the kind of woman he hopes to dress.
“My brand is all about dressing powerful and strong women,” he told Vogue. “Having Vice President Kamala Harris attend Beyoncé’s tour and wear a custom show look by me is an incredible moment. Two powerhouses uniting!”
For accessories, the Vice President wore a necklace made by the Black designer Harwell Godfrey. Godfrey’s work is grounded in her Black American heritage. While speaking with the CFDA (of which she was a finalist for the fashion fund in 2023), Godfrey said she finds connecting to her culture and her heritage really interesting.
“My parents divorced when I was very young, and my father actually passed away. He was my Black parent. I am mixed race; my mom is white. It is like my whole life, I have been searching for meaningful ways to connect to that side of my family, which I did not get to have as much connection to,” she said. “Through this work, I find that it is almost healing to be able to search, study, and take in Black culture. I feel more connected to that side of my family.”
Rain Complications
The Vice President attended the Saturday show of the tour which went off without a hitch. However, fans attending Sunday’s Renaissance concert dealt with delays due to bad weather. Those delays threatened to make getting home harder for those using public transit. Beyoncé extended a kind gesture to fans to make their journeys home a lot easier. The singer paid DC Metro $100,000 to stay open for one more hour to help attendees who had stayed out longer than planned due to the rainfall delay. To announce the development, the official Twitter account for Metrorail tweeted “Hold Up #Beyhive, Metro & Renaissance Tour will extend the last train by an extra hour to weather the storm. The last Silver Line train toward Ashburn tonight will now depart Morgan Boulevard at 1:04 a.m.”
